Hope 2020 has not been too harsh for you! The world is crazy right now and I think most of us are just trying to make it to 2021 - its got to be better, right?!

<img alt="" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-12297 lazyloaded" data-attachment-id="12297" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-description="" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Love and Kisses Blog Tour" data-jpibfi-indexer="0" data-jpibfi-post-excerpt="" data-jpibfi-post-title="Love & Kisses Blog Tour Kickoff!!! Two exciting things are happening this weekend and first up is the Love & Kisses Blog Hop! Sherry Shish of Powered by Quilting put together a signature line for Island Batiks. I had never heard of having a signature line, but I love the idea! Sherry has put together patterns and such to along with fabrics designed by Island Batik's in house designer, Kathy Engle. And let me tell you, these are such darling patterns and colors and everything!

I chose to do a table runner using a pattern that I love so much - Flowering Snowball by Ann Sandler of Stitch Supply Co. Many moons ago, Ann put a call out for testers for this pattern and I applied! I had never done curves before, they were a scary thing for me so I was the ultimate beginner. Let me tell you, this pattern is so well written, the templates that come with it are so good, that I started sewing curves like I had been doing them my whole life! I had looked at loads of tutorials over the years to try and make myself less afraid of them and actually try but just couldn't wrap my brain around them. This pattern and the diagrams and info that Ann includes made curves make sense, made them less scary. I always wanted to revisit the pattern so when Sherry put out a call for pattern ideas, I submitted a flowering snowball pattern and it came out so good!

This collection of fabrics includes the sweetest swirls and hearts in the most darling colors - pinks, blues, and purples with a great grey blender color. The swirls and curls lent themselves to well to the Flowering Snowball pattern, there's so much movement! I chose one of each color and then Sherry sent the grey blender fabric as binding - just so perfect.

I love playing with color placement in traditional patterns to create something fun and fresh. This table runner does just that by doing a radiating color selection. For this pattern, you'll need the following:

Blue: 16 sides, 8 corners, 4 centers - 5/8 yard

Purple: 8 sides, 16 corners, 4 centers - 3/4 yard

Pink: 16 sides, 16 corners, 2 centers - 7/8 yard

Binding: 1/4 yard if using 2 1/4" binding strips

Look at how gorgeous these colors are! Even late at night, which is when I do the bulk of my sewing!

Just follow the pattern for the block construction and the above pictures for where I put each fabric. Ann truly wrote an amazing pattern that I can't encourage you enough to purchase.

Now for some glamour shots! And some Massey, our outdoor kitty that is never too far from me when I'm outside.

These were pre-binding, I forgot to grab new pictures today while the sun was out, so catch those on Instagram.

Speaking of Insta - over on my design page ( @andrea.arledge.designs ) there will be a giveaway! Took another few months to get back here, but here I am!

I have a game plan for some pattern releases! Though, I am having a minor issue deciding what platform I'm going to be using to sell said patterns. My Half Square Ohio collection will be released in August, come hell or high water - these have been my babies for long enough, its time to send them out into the world. There are three patterns in the collection right now, but I'm hoping to keep adding to it over the years. I have an idea that I'm going to be sending to Moda this week, so if that's accepted, it'll be shared through them, if not, it will go up as a tutorial on here. I've been selected to be a part of a blog hop - more on that later this week, maybe. I'm also a part of a Corey Yoder quilting bee this year, and my month is September. I'm still not sure what pattern I'm requesting, but when I get my blocks, I'll be posting here to share them! I can't wait for that!

Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723360255881297744noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3657113126885762467.post-37769240740807528742020-01-12T13:24:00.000-05:002020-01-12T13:45:14.112-05:00Hello, from 2020Well.

It's been a hot minute.

I want to build my brand a little bit, so I'm bringing back the blog! I still love this space, it still feels like home, so I'm back, and I'm excited to be here! I'm going to be learning how to make this place a fun spot, a learning spot.

I have a huge goal of getting a tutorial published on Moda's Bake Shop and for that to happen I need an online presence. A little more than just Instagram, I guess.

So, I will be here a little more. I'm going to be back in a day or two with all the fabric totals of my inventory and some tracking sheets that I'm going to really keep track of this year. I also want to share my goals for this year and my top nine makes for this year. Maybe twelve. I'm not sure if I want to focus on one project each month to totally finish or if I want to just stick with the "Make Nine" that floats around the internet and social media world.

Can't wait to share my crafty life a little bit more. I've missed you guys!Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723360255881297744noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3657113126885762467.post-28449906642671647582015-07-26T14:56:00.002-04:002015-07-26T14:57:10.742-04:00Couny Fair Season!I really love fairs. Like a whole lot. I didn't enter my crafts until these past few years that I've been living in Ross County again, but I love doing it and I'm so glad I've gotten into it. I was due to give a talk to the Columbus Modern Quilters this past week about my experience entering fairs but baby jeep had other plans for me as I ended up spending well over a week on a tire for the front end. So, with that being said, let's talk fairs!

I know I missed the Franklin County fair, it was July 18th through the 25th. Licking County, which is actually The Hartford Fair, is from August 9th to the 15th. Fairfield County is held from October 11th to the 17th. The Pickaway County Fair was held from June 22nd through the 27th. And, lastly Ross County is from August 8th through the 15th. I've linked back to the local counties on those links, but if you go to this website you can find the dates of all the county fairs for 2015.

I entered the Ross County Fair on a whim about four years ago. I really couldn't even tell you what I entered, I didn't really know what I was doing, I just along for the ride. I didn't expect to win anything, and I was shocked to find I did win some of my classes. The way Ross County is set up is that there are "departments" of crafts and within each department, there are individual "classes". So, I could enter in the quilt department, but enter five different classes based off the different sections of the class. For example, you can enter into the Quilting - Mini/wall hanging, Quilting - group quilt, Quilting - Machine stitched, and Quilting - Hand stitched. However, you cannot enter the same quilt into multiple classes, and you can't enter it two years in a row. How would you be able to do that? We have a great class called "Unfinished Object" :) I have entered, and won, the knitting and crochet Unfinished Object class, but then I couldn't enter it again the next year if it was finished, I would have to wait a year. (actually, the projects I won those classes with....neither are finished! haha). Make sure you are entering the class/department that best fits what craft you are showing. If you're unsure, talk to the people running the show! I've never once found them to not be helpful in any way they can be! Make sure that you read all the rules to your fair as well - if the quilts have to be hand bound, hand bind them, etc.

Entering the fair isn't about winning. Don't get me wrong, it is a major plus, especially if your fair gives out prize winnings, but to me, it is about showing people that quilting/knitting/crochet/crafting isn't for tiny old ladies in nursing homes. We are all younger with new families and new ideas of what our crafts can look like, and we have the right to show that to people. I can't help but strongly encourage you to enter all the competitions that you can, it is rewarding, it is challenging, it is a great and amazing thing to do to share you craft and talent with others!! I have learned so much just by entering into the fair, it has helped push me along to learn new things, it has pushed me to actually finish things because I use the fair deadline as a reason to get sh*t done! :)

Please make two feathers (they make a square when put together...) but please don't sew them together. I would like just the two individual feathers. Please keep in mind when looking at the pattern that AMH is thinking that you're going to be doing an entire quilt of these instead of just two....but, I found this a post that helps with that. So, be sure to check out THIS LINK before you make your block.

As for colors, please keep the background as a low volume, text would be preferred but not required. And, for the feathers themselves, just keep them bright and scrappy, and making the two sides different of each feather would be awesome but not required. Mix the colors as you wish, just make sure they are not in ROYGBIV color order, I love rainbows but I don't want a specifically rainbow color scheme, just want all the colors I can get.

Lastly, please have fun with it, and I'm sure I'm going to love whatever you make! <3Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723360255881297744noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3657113126885762467.post-47158868838447101512014-12-26T21:19:00.001-05:002014-12-26T21:19:38.568-05:002015, I got you in my sights. I can't believe that I have let this whole year pass with minimal posting. I love blogging. I love having an outlet for writing and posting about Scarlett Key and such. I have really gotten into Instagram this year and that has helped in neglecting this poor blog of mine.
So much has changed this year too! I got married! I will post about that at some point. I became a step-mom when that happened, and I will post about that later too. I moved on to an almost 70 acre bean farm! It has been a crazy year! And, I promise to write about all of it....someday. Right now? Right now I want to talk about what's coming. 2015 is going to rock. Plain and simple. I did the whole, pick one word thing on Instagram and this is what I picked.

I want to rebuild Scarlett Key. I want to rebuild this blog and my online presence. I want to finish building the house with my Lloyd. I want to build myself into the best me I can be! I mean, seriously, I'm going to be turning 30 in May, now is the best time as any to create my world the way I want it to be! Right?!
I will be back later with my quilty goal list, my crafty list, my Scarlett Key list, my life list, my me lists for 2015. I work better when I have goals. And, I'm going to set a whole flipping lot of them this year!

Girls, please don't hate me when I ask for this block. I just love
Flying Geese. I think they are a pretty versatile tool to keep in your
back pocket when it comes to quilting. They can be done with half
square triangles because they are generally half as tall as they are
wide (i.e. 2x4 or 3x6 or 4x8) but traditional flying geese are not done
that way. There are many websites, books, magazines, etc that will show
you how to make geese and you can pick how you want to make them. The best website - and the one that I've found that includes all
cutting measurements for all the ways to make geese is at ShopMartingale.com (click on link). You can also check out House On Hill Road or QuiltersCache.

My
personal method is flippy corner version. I will sew on the marked seam and
then sew a half inch to the right of that seam so that I get ready made
hst squares from the corners - just cut in the middle so that there is a
quarter inch seam for both the flying geese and the square that is left
over. I've also tried various methods to reduce the seam bulk. Pressing seams on the geese open seems to work pretty well, but there are still going to be some bulky seams where you are connecting the geese together. I choose to nest those as best I can in the direction that reduces bulk.

To make this block, you will need eight 6x3 geese and fourteen 2x4 geese. Just lay them out in this layout:

Now for some guidelines on colors and such....
~ Please do the block in one of two colorways. There is a "cool" version using blues, greens, (not bright) purples or a "warm" version using reds, pinks, oranges, yellows. You don't have to follow these layouts exactly, they were just to give you and idea of the colorways.

~ As for the geese part, or the middle triangle, please use something dark. A tone on tone black print is what I'm using for my block that way there is some dimension to it.
~ I love geometric prints (i.e. circles, squares, stripes, arrows, Greek key), so if you can stay away from overly floral patterns and prints, I would appreciate it but I'm not too picky as I want this to be pretty scrappy looking.
~ You're totally allowed to use the "Make 4 At a Time" method of geese, just try to not put two of the same print next together.

As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me! My email is prajaline@gmail.com and I'm on Instagram on a regular basis under @pommesdeterres

Thank you so much!!
I need something to focus on for this upcoming year. I need to channel my energies. So, with that said, my word for 2014 is: create.

I want to create for me, for my family, for Scarlett Key.
I want to create a loving environment.
I want to create a positive place to work.
I want to create a better me.

What's your 2014 word?
Well, in July I went to Nashville and in August I got to go to Kansas City. The Nashville trip was fun but we only were there for like 30 hours or so, that was a crazzzy week!! Kansas City was a three day trip - with me boss. Luckily for me he is hilarious and we had a blast. I did not know, nor was I prepared for, the amount of work and networking that goes into the evening trips to some bars. Most of those stories will stay secret haha The other great thing about my boss? He travels a lot normally so he got us upgraded to the top of the hotel! Like rooms on the 38th floor and the top floor restaurant was open to us for free. Seriously though, this hotel was so pretty that I could've lived there forever. I can't wait to go back!! I think I get to go twice a year so the next trip will be in February or March. Here are some AMAZING shots from the view of our hotel! Enjoy!
It rained again, but I still had a blast!! The great thing about doing a show so close to home is that when I need to pee I can text dad or mom to come watch my booth for a minute haha I also get homemade meals delivered so I don't have to live on fair food all weekend. This was the only show I did but the fact that it was the second year was special to me. I had people that said they remembered me! I had repeat customers! It might have been a little much to take in but it was so awesome!
She taught me to sew, to quilt, to crochet, to knit, to embroider. To do most things crafty. Well, she got honored this year in the best way possible. But, let's back up a little...My grandma joined a quilt group. They are the funniest little group of little old ladies and it seriously warms my heart that she's found this group! Well, this little group chose her to be the main person getting honored during the Labor Day Festival in that town. The festival was only open Saturday, Sunday and Monday of Labor day...and I had a show (more on that later!) all day Saturday and Sunday and was scheduled to work Monday at 1230. I should add here that the town her group meets in is over an hour away from the farm. Yes, I woke up super early, made it to her house for breakfast with her, my grandpa, and my aunt & uncle who came in from Maine, went to the show for a bit and then came back to work until 930 at night. It was exhausting but so so so so worth it!! Here are a few pics that I was able to snap. I know there are more pictures somewhere with us in them but my uncle still has them.
2. What is your favorite Friday
afternoon/evening activity?

My favorite thing about Friday is leaving work. Not even gonna lie! I work. A LOT. Like 50-60 hours/week minimum. Usually I'm off Saturdays, and while I end up going in sometimes (ok, a lot of the time), so leaving on Fridays means that I get at least a few hours of me time to do what I want.....which, let's be honest. I usually end up sleeping.

3. A day in the life: What does you
typical day look like?

My usual work shift is 1230-930 at the store so I will go with one of those days....Since I've most likely stayed up incredibly late the night before, I get woken up by Elroy around 630am. I feed him and then roll over and go back to sleep. I might have moved his food and one dish to right by my bed so I can do this. Don't judge. :) I wake up again around 10-1030 and check my phone for a bit - the usual, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Shower and ready to leave by 1215 since my drive to work is only 10 minutes. Work, with lunch from 3-4, leaving around 930 but most nights it isn't until 10. After that it is fair game but most nights end up with me in bed with my laptop or stitching on something for the shop.

4. Do you have any fitness routines?
What are they?

Fitness is something that comes and goes with me. At work I'm on my feet all day long running from one side of the store to the other. When I get a few hours or even an hour, I'm at the trail walking or jogging (yes, I JOG now!!!) but that's about it.

I'm still alive. Alive and well, no less! And I made something today! WOOHOO! My creative muse has been coming and going for a while now and she left on an extended vacation it seems. But, I think she is back. I've been tucking little Pinterest ideas away for my future show for a while now. I even have a board dedicated to the ones I like, but I have not actually made any of them until today.... I hated the way I had my rings at every show last year. I had them on a tray one time, in a bowl another time, and then a basket. None of those felt right. I needed a display. A proper ring display...but I never found one to buy that I really loved. Insert: Pinterest. The first idea was this pin. A shoe and rings? Hello. Perfect. But then I never found a shoe that I really loved enough to use. This second pin that I found seemed more perfect. And do-able! I hunted for a frame and ultimately found this one at Hobby Lobby (all their frames are 50% everyday!) that was perfect and went to town...Here's how I did it in pictures:

The important thing to look for in a frame is a deep glass setting. The way that I built mine is so that I can just take this ring insert out and change up the fabric and such so having the glass set-in about an inch really was a requirement. I think it is important to note that I didn't take the glass out either, it is still in behind the insert.

This is my frame, head on. I really liked the scroll accents. It suits my shabby-chic-ness of my other displays.

This is the picture that I sent to a few friends to see which fabric they thought I should use. We all said the same thing, the right fabric was the one to use!

I don't remember where I saw it, but foam hair curlers are a life saver in this project!! Instead of trying to roll up foam or felt or anything, just use the curlers! I had to lay them out inside the frame to see how I wanted the rings to be displayed.

I decided to use the frame sideways, this will mean that I need to find a different back so that I have a support but that's small apples to worry about! haha

Now this is the awkward part. I cut my fabric to be just under an inch past the edge of each row and left it quite a bit long since I didn't know how much would be needed to go around each row. I glued three curlers together, end to end to make up a row. Then I glued the curlers to the fabric. I forgot to take a picture of it, but I took the edge of the fabric and glued it to my first row. Then I brought the fabric all the way around so that the edge touched the fold of the fabric going back to get to the next curler. I did this because you have to be able to sit the rings in between the curlers, you don't want to glue the fabric to itself and lost that ability.

Well, I am still alive. I've just been struggling with a lot of things lately. The intensity of how much I miss Dayton and my friends there comes in waves. Lately, it feels like tidal waves crashing over me. I miss having my own space, my friends, my life there. I dislike Ross County so much for so many different reasons. This has never felt like "home" in the sense that Dayton or Clinton County does. Everything with Scarlett Key has been weighing heavily on me as well. I am seriously debating closing the Etsy shop, I don't do well on there. I know it will only return as much as I put into it, but let's face it...I was unemployed and put my all into it and I still was lost amongst the masses on there. I do so much better at shows. However, the time off work to prepare and work those shows doesn't happen so then I'm back to square one with struggling on Etsy. I know there is a learning curve, and I will master it. I just feel beat down a bit about it right now. I will be back, maybe not here, maybe on a blog *just* for Scarlett Key things, but I will be back at some point. Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723360255881297744noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3657113126885762467.post-60889367337878418442013-05-09T00:12:00.001-04:002013-05-09T00:12:38.189-04:00SHIRT ORDER REMINDERJust a reminder that I'm placing my ONE AND ONLY shirt order this weekend!! I need help. I have researched KickStarter and while I think it is a great tool, I don't think it is for me right now.

I'm looking to purchase a new tent for my craft shows during this coming summer. Scarlett Key is in my blood now, it is a passion that I can't let go of and all I want to do is build my business. While I do well on Etsy, and I'm incredibly grateful to all of my customers on there, craft shows/festivals/fairs are where I do the bulk of my business. Last year, I got to use my brother's pop up but would love to have one of my own. This is where you all can come in!! I have designed a tee shirt supporting Scarlett Key. All proceeds from these will go into my NEW TENT FUND :)
Each shirt is just $20, and will be customized with YOUR name on the back! Um, hello, how cool is that?!?! These are the same shirts that I will be wearing during all my shows so you really will be part of the Scarlett Key family if you purchase one! These shirts are a generically sized tee shirt (read: I will probably order a medium or a large and I wear a large from Old Navy usually) and the sizes that you can order range from XS to 4X. They take about two weeks to make and ship to me so I will need to place my order by MAY 10th to get them here before I really get into show season. Once I get them, I will make sure they get shipped or delivered to you!!

If you would like to purchase one AND SUPPORT SCARLETT KEY then please send me an email at scarlettkeysales@gmail.com using SHIRT ORDER in the subject line and I will share my paypal information with you.

I absolutely can't thank everyone enough for all of their support during this time in my life. I really do pour my heart and soul into this little business of mine and seeing the love that others have for my products only adds to the fire in me to make it better. Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723360255881297744noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3657113126885762467.post-38519096198222248832013-04-01T12:00:00.000-04:002013-04-01T12:00:00.774-04:00...and we're back!I had an incredible month away but I'm so glad to be back. I kept up with my fast of social media with the one exception of a photo that just HAD to be posted to facebook. I will write more later about all that happened, if I decide to - right now I kinda want to keep it all to myself. I didn't do this to go have a great month and then share, I did this to prove to myself that I didn't have to post every single tiny thing, thought, emotion for the entire world to see. Just because it didn't get put online doesn't mean it didn't happen. I don't know.... Anyways, here is a peek at my goals and how I fared :)

1 - Figure out new packaging for Scarlett Key, this included all types
of rebranding the shop. I'm looking into some great ideas, and I can't
wait to make a decision and take the steps to make it possible. I need a
cohesiveness when it comes to my shop, I need a brand even though it is
a small business it is my business and I want to present the best side
of it at all times. < - > I did this. I made some serious decisions. I'm not totally rebranding the shop, just making some changes here and there. The addition of a key stamp to a few more places to make that tie-in with my name. How I'm packaging mail orders has changed. My stationary has changed a little bit. All steps in the right direct if I do say so myself.

2 - Finish at least one of each new product in as many colors as possible. < - > Yeah, this didn't happen. I got a good bit done, but not anywhere near what I would like to get done. The new pieces will be added to the shop soon. Most likely with in the week or so.

3 - Finish all duplicates of current products. When it comes to my bows
and such, my goal is to have at least two of them made at all times. I
also want to streamline the ordering process for these as well. That
means the final decision on keeping them as individual listings or make
them a group listing with a color selection at checkout. < - > I didn't finish any new pieces from old patterns, but that's ok. I have a while before they're needed for shows. As for deciding on how to streamline ordering, I think I will keep it the way it is for now. When I finish more pieces, I will streamline it as I go. i.e. - bows at one time, purses at another, etc.

4 - Make a list of shows that I want to be a part of and gather all applications for them. < - > This didn't happen, but I already have been contacted about coming back to shows this year. I'm excited and thrilled to be asked back!!

5 - Get out all display items, inventory, brainstorm ideas, create a visual, and update anything if needed. < - > Done! haha I had my dad help build me the stand for my future business card holder, I just need to build a basket to hold them. The only other thing that I need to build is a ring holder (hello, and thank you to Pinterest for the idea floating around in my head...). I'm also going to gather some vintage sheets or something similarly pretty for the sides of my booth when I'm outside. I have so many pretty visions in my head!

6 - Get and keep inventory sheets up-to-date. < - > Done! I've been really good about this!

7 - Get my show bag ready. < - > Done! Jamie got me the cutest Thirty-One purse for Christmas that has Scarlett Key on it and I just love it so so so much. I seriously can't wait to walk into my first show carrying it.

8 - Get all unused items out of my room and to Goodwill. < - > Done! Mom and I cleaned a BUNCH of stuff out of the house and I feel a million times better!

9 - Present and decide with dad on the horseshoe items. < - > I didn't do this, daddy has had a rough month so I took it easy on him :)

10 - Put in at least three miles on the trail each day off. The only
exception to this will be days with rain and/or snow or below 40
degrees. < - > DONE!!! This is by far my most happy goal on here!!! I might have missed one day of over 40 days off on the trail, but I did hit over 10 miles most weeks! We had a serious snow storm for a few days and that kept me away. But, to make up for it, there were some seriously cold days out there and I still went! I'm so insanely proud of myself.

Oh! And I know I'm late on this, but did you hear that Google Reader is going be leaving us this summer? I have already set up this little blog on BlogLovin', all you gotta do is click that link over on the top right (see the Eiffel Tower?) and it will get you there, just hit the blue follow button on that screen! :)Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723360255881297744noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3657113126885762467.post-39320529271496025472013-02-28T22:57:00.000-05:002013-02-28T22:57:00.681-05:00Goals Update! This was the first month that I set up goals for the month and I kinda failed horribly at them. haha, just look and see.

1 - Make a complete list of all my unfinished projects and get them
organized into a way that will make them easier to finish. A COMPLETE
LIST. (not gonna lie, this one scares me a bit.) < - > I did make a list. I have a page for each of them in one of my journals, and the list above that I updated once already. It wasn't as much as I thought it was going to be. The list of what has been started isn't long, the list of ideas goes on for pages in my journal haha

2 - Get my Rav page updated with my Sunflower Yarn collection. I didn't
realize how much I had accumulated right before Amanda closed the shop
until the other day when I separated it out and it filled an entire milk
crate....and that was just the stuff I picked up since like November. < - > I didn't get this updated but I also haven't gotten into my yarn, like, at all this month. I didn't craft much that needed stored yarn.

3 - Finish and list all new shop products. This includes the one
embroidery piece, the purse half done, new thread pieces, new clutches,
and listing the ear warmers finally. < - > I didn't get anything new listed, but I did do a post about the infinity scarf that will be added as a custom item.

4 - Get all my display stuff stored upstairs until next year and make any plans to upgrade/change any of it. < - > I didn't get things store upstairs as I've been in and out of the bins frequently lately working and updating pieces. I've gotten a list started of all the items I want to pick up or change for this coming year. Mainly it is about branding and bringing a sense of cohesiveness to the spaces that I rent for shows.

5 - Finish reading The Summer Garden and Dingley Falls. < - > I read a few more chapters of The Summer Garden, but that is it for book reading. I did read a few magazines out of my massive stack that has been building up though! haha

See? I told you that I didn't do great on them. Oh well, I'm taking the month of March off from everything so that I can get caught up on things but I still made a goal list!

1 - Figure out new packaging for Scarlett Key, this included all types of rebranding the shop. I'm looking into some great ideas, and I can't wait to make a decision and take the steps to make it possible. I need a cohesiveness when it comes to my shop, I need a brand even though it is a small business it is my business and I want to present the best side of it at all times.

2 - Finish at least one of each new product in as many colors as possible.

3 - Finish all duplicates of current products. When it comes to my bows and such, my goal is to have at least two of them made at all times. I also want to streamline the ordering process for these as well. That means the final decision on keeping them as individual listings or make them a group listing with a color selection at checkout. Any ideas or thoughts on this are greatly appreciated! haha

4 - Make a list of shows that I want to be a part of and gather all applications for them.

5 - Get out all display items, inventory, brainstorm ideas, create a visual, and update anything if needed.

6 - Get and keep inventory sheets up-to-date.

7 - Get my show bag ready.

8 - Get all unused items out of my room and to Goodwill.

9 - Present and decide with dad on the horseshoe items.

10 - Put in at least three miles on the trail each day off. The only exception to this will be days with rain and/or snow or below 40 degrees.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading haha I can't wait to just be creative this month without worrying about blogging this or that, tweeting, facebooking. I'm slightly terrified that it will affect my shop in a negative way, but I need this time to come back better than ever so I hope that it will show :) See y'all in March!!

p.s.--if you need me or want to purchase something I will still have access to my emails, scarlettkeysales@gmail.com Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723360255881297744noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3657113126885762467.post-54247012206148035392013-02-28T01:13:00.000-05:002013-02-28T01:13:02.714-05:00DON'T FORGET!!I'm closing the shop for March!! That means tomorrow-ish I will be setting the shop in vacation mode so there won't be the ability to purchase anything. I will be coming back with new products, new packaging, new branding, new....everything!

It also means that once I close the shop, the 25% off coupon code - 25OFF - will also end!!

Hurry up and shop away! :) <3Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723360255881297744noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3657113126885762467.post-4901261197363322042013-02-27T00:35:00.002-05:002013-02-27T00:35:57.841-05:00The one where I share some personal stuff.I came home for lunch, like I do many days, bouncing into the house, as my mom came out from behind the fridge to scare the beeeeejeeeeesus out of me.
I found this post on a blog that I just added recently. There were instant tears. Instant. Not because I had lost my mom as well, obviously I hadn't, but because of everything I've gone through with her. Many of my childhood memories are set in a hospital. Either it was me (um, hello, I've had stitches multiple times and was in the ER enough that I was questioned by DFS haha) or my momma.

I will never forget the day that I ran into mom and dad's room only to have my dad stop me and say that she was too sick, that she couldn't walk, that we were taking her to the hospital immediately. She was so pale and could hardly open her eyes to even look at me. The next few hours are a blur - I don't really remember driving to the hospital or waiting there for the doctors. I remember seeing my dad get teary eyed for the first and only time ever. I remember blurry faces running around. I remember wondering why we went to Fayette Memorial instead of Clinton Memorial. I remember my dad and the nurses telling us to say goodbye to my mom because she was going to another hospital via ambulance. I remember my dad holding me up next to the gurney because I was too short to reach over and give her a kiss. I remember she tasted like bubblegum (the kind nurse said it was from the morphine they gave her). I remember looking up and watching my dad lean down and kiss her forehead. I didn't know when I would see my mom again. I didn't know if I ever would see my mom again. I understood the idea of death and funerals, my great grandmother had passed away a few years before, so my young brain knew there was a chance I wouldn't see my momma anymore but I still didn't know what exactly was going on.

My mom had a Fem-Fem that day, her femoral arteries were blocked and the only way to fix it was to build a bypass around the blockage. It wasn't the only surgery she would have when I was a kid. We would find out that my mom has a blood disease that causing totally random blood clots to form at random points in the body. This can be something as simple as bumping a table, getting a bruise, and getting a blood clot. That blood clot can move, it can go to the brain, it can go to the lungs, it can go to the heart. It is completely unpredictable. That is scary. Any time my mom gets sick, it is scary because I don't know if it will suddenly get worse. As a teenager, I would back talk and give attitude and then instantly feel guilty because that might have been the last time I spoke to my mom. When I lived alone, I would not answer my mom's calls for a day but then feel guilty because that might have been the last time she could have called. She asks me to do something around the house now and I get annoyed, and then feel guilty because I should be helping her. But, I also come home for lunch a lot so I can talk to my mom at the table. I ask for advice. I try to make the most of every holiday and birthday now. When my mom is sick, I try to help her as much as possible. When she had her last bypass surgery and was in the ICU for like 4 times as long as most people, I would go to work at the Credit Union all day, drive the hour and a half to Chillicothe to see her in Adena until visiting hours were over, drive to the farm to make sure dad was ok and eating and taking care of the animals, then drive the hour and 15-ish minutes back to my apartment in Kettering only to do it all over again the next day until she went home.
Having a sick parent doesn't make me a saint by any means. I'm not trying to prove how great of a daughter I am. I just wish people that are mean or give attitude to their parents think about what life would be like if they were not there. I saw a random picture on Pinterest right before Valentine's Day that said: "So, you don't have a Valentine on Valentine's Day, some people don't have a Mom on Mother's Day or a Dad on Father's Day." I wish more people would read this statement. I wish more people would think about this statement.
I know my mom is always going to be "sick". I know there will always be the fear of the worst happening. I also know that I will never be prepared for her to not be around. I know that I will not be as eloquent as Mandy when that time comes. I will be a sobbing, snotty, uncontrollable mess. And I hope with all hopes in my heart that it doesn't happen any time soon.
This has actually been on my list to finish up (did you see that I added a new page up there?) and mail out...but of course, I missed her birthday by days. That's just how I roll, always four days late to everything :)
Thankfully she sent me a couple of pictures so that I can share what it looked like when it was done, because, well, all I took were two closeups of the stitch I used haha, always the crafter! If you would like one of these, please email me at the shop email - scarlettkeysales@gmail.com - and I will make a special listing in the shop for you since they aren't listed there right now. The price they will be listed for is $35 and how about free shipping if you order before the first? And don't forget, the 25% off coupon code is still active and will be on the special listing if you order before the first when I close the shop for the month of March.Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723360255881297744noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3657113126885762467.post-20115977050009446672013-02-21T00:05:00.003-05:002013-02-21T00:05:46.585-05:00Update! (and a coupon code!)Just wanted to post a quick update about me..... I'm taking the month of March off from social media. This includes Facebook, Twitter, this blog....and Scarlett Key. I need to refocus and rebrand a little bit. I will be back in early April with new products that I can't wait to work on, but I feel like I need to withdraw for a bit to make these new products with the care and attention that I've put into everything else. I want my shop to be full of QUALITY and not just QUANTITY.

I hope y'all will support me when I come back but until then, I have a favor to ask. I'm trying to clear out some items that I've had for a while so I've changed the discount code to TWENTY-FIVE PERCENT off your order when you use "25OFF" when you check out.

I would appreciate all the shares, re-blogs, anything you can do to spread the word about this, I will have the shop open until March 1st and the coupon code will be good until then. :)

I will be back here with a more personal update and my goals update later this week/early next week. <3Andreahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10723360255881297744noreply@blogger.com0
